SWORWIB Summer Youth Employment Program Providers 2009
The SWORWIB has selected the following five youth service providers to undertake the delivery of services to youth in the City of Cincinnati/Hamilton County for the summer of 2009. All programs include work readiness training that may include either or both computer literacy certificates and financial literacy certifications, in addition to on-site subsidized employment in many of the offerings. Interested youth may contact their choice of the following vendors depending on their age, locations, and interest.
- Arbor (E&T) will provide summer youth employment services through their program entitled Career Works. This program will train 380 young adults ages 18-24. Participants will be referred to as Summer Associates, with several steps that are designed to enable participants to have a full work experience. The program is divided into three components. - Easter Seals Work Resource Center will provide summer youth employment for 120 low-income youth between the ages of 14 -24. Youth will participate in an extensive orientation process to prepare them for work. Training will focus on work readiness skills, academic enrichment, career development, financial literacy, labor laws and skills to promote advancement in the workplace. - Great Oaks will serve 45 youth under their Freshman Challenge program. Great Oaks recruited from three school districts. Mt. Healthy, Milford Exempted Village, and Deer Park City Schools. Great Oaks will utilize their Individual Academic and Career Plans curriculum (IACP) to show the relevance of academics to future progress. - Job for Cincinnati Graduates, JCG will provide a Summer Career Exploration program for 51 participants. The JCG program youth will receive job readiness training for one week, and then youth will be placed for seven weeks with an employer that matches their chosen career path. - Urban League of Greater Cincinnati will provide paid work readiness training for 100 out of school youth. Their target populations are disengaged youth from the educational system, drop outs, pregnant and parenting teens, youth who have had contact with the court system. Additionally the Urban League will provide services for aging out of foster care youth. Participants will be assigned to either one of two Urban League signature job training and readiness programs: SOAR (Solid Opportunities for Advancement and Retention) or (ACE) Accelerated Call Center Education Program.
